Estonian in airport case says he was not aware of local rules

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Sharia court during an appeal hearing yesterday quashed the 80 lashes announced earlier for Andrie Karol, the Estonian soldier of peacekeeping force who was charged with one month imprisonment, 80 lashes and fine of Dh 2,000 followed by deportation for consumption of alcohol and harassing a policewoman during his transit at Sharjah Airport.

Dh 82, 000 stolen from parked car in Ajman

AJMAN — A theft of Dh82,000 took place yesterday at 1pm from near customer service office of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) in Ajman, according to Brigadier Rashid Mujlad, Head of the Investigation Section of Ajman Police. He said the amount was stolen from a car which was parked in the parking lot of Fewa Customer Services office. The theft was carried out by breaking the window on the driver’s side.

Filipina maid tries to commit suicide

AJMAN — A Filipina housemaid who worked for a UAE national family in Al Zahra Area of Ajman tried to allegedly commit suicide by throwing herself from the balcony of a second floor apartment of the building, according to a police source.

Sharjah Roads Pavement project to be completed by 2007
